I’ve been on just a couple of stretches of the old U.S. 66: in and south of Springfield, IL (roughly parallel to Interstate 55), Gravois Avenue in St. Louis, and in south-central Missouri on a trip between Memphis, TN, and Osage Beach, MO. (May have just crossed it and not traveled it — I was a small child and wasn’t driving!)

I’ve always wanted to take it “from Chicago to LA — more than two thousand miles on the way,” as the song says. While in many places the road has been absorbed by an interstate highway, many sections are drivable. So, maybe someday …
